What is Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy?

Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy is a talking therapy that supports children and young people to talk and think about themselves within the context of a reliable therapeutic relationship. As a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist I recognise that when children and young people are experiencing difficulties with their mental health and emotional wellbeing they can be helped by gaining a deeper understanding of what lies underneath their difficulties.

This way of thinking with a therapist can support children and young people to understand themselves more deeply and get to know about the things that can get in the way of them achieving what they want and making use of help and support. By addressing not only the symptoms but the underlying dynamics, there is more possibility for greater resilience against the recurrence of difficulties.

Children and young people, accessing Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, are provided with a range of resources that can support them to draw, play, think and talk with their Psychotherapist.
